nukes

30Jun08

Looks like I’m on a roll posting tonight.   There won’t be too much to this one except to say that it’s great to hear that both McCain and Obama are talking about nuclear power.
Nuclear power seems like such a no-brainer to me, expensive though it may be.  I must admit to be totally perplexed by [...]

All my recent blog posts include a relevant picture.   It makes the blog much more pleasing to read, and, to be honest, more fun to write.  It’s fun to think of a topic, then go to the Google Image search and find a relevant image.
Of course that means that this blog is one big series [...]

the high road

Why is it so f—ing difficult for the US to take the high road with these terrorists?  This is not difficult.

Full due process
Close Guantanamo
No more CIA renditions
Stop with the death penalty

Treat these guys like the ordinary criminals that they are.

Following up on my previous post about the Tesla electric roadster, one thing that is pretty clear is that this country’s antiquated electric grid couldn’t handle very many electric sports sedans if they were put into mass production.
We have a hard enough time keeping the electricity on in the summer months as it is.  It’s [...]

I think it’s great to see that the Tesla electric roadster is finally hitting the road.  It has its share of problems, but kudos to them for making it happen.  It was a stroke of genius to match up two impractical concepts–the roadster and the electric car–into something that is slightly less impractical than the [...]

If you own a house and have a rough estimate of the decline in equity since the top of the market, how many gallons of gasoline and how many miles could you drive with that money?
With a conservative estimate, I could probably circle the earth a few times.
I’m [...]

I got a cool new gadget.  For $99, you can buy this box which connects to your TV and internet connection.  With it, you can stream movies straight from Netflix with no cost other than the monthly fee you already pay for Netflix service.
It was ridiculously easy to set up and very easy to use.  [...]

then…and now

First a picture of a Depression-era shantytown.

And its modern day equivalent.

How anyone thinks that we are going to avoid a recession is beyond me.

obama

Obama’s new payroll tax idea is a good example of why I have a hard time getting excited about this guy.
The payroll tax structure is clearly regressive and unfair: only the first $102,000 of wages are taxable. Someone earning $1M/year pays the same amount of payroll tax as someone earning $102,000.
I challenge anyone to [...]
